We are a Devon family who’ve returned home from many travels to the place we love best. Our deep and enduring love for Devon and its Moors and Tors inspired the launch of Taylor and Moor in 2020.
The story of our tea begins in January 2009. Our Ashburton tearooms opened with its signature faded chintz and old English style, soon becoming a popular retreat on the edge of the Moor. Whilst Taylor’s Tearooms also became known for its cakes and antiques, our interest in the tea was the driving force behind the business.
Having traveled widely to some of the world’s finest tea producing countries to understand the process, the lifestyle and the history of this extremely important commodity, we found our passion.
Our teas are chosen from a handful of tea merchants who hold quality and authenticity close to their hearts. We blend a number of unique teas ourselves and believe that from a decade of tea obsession, we have produced a tea menu to appeal to every palate. Our selection is small, but perfectly considered, leaving one feeling secure that each tea will be excellent in its own way.
When we launched the online business in 2020, we intended to provide a beautiful range of teas and accessories which not only represent the love we have for our Dartmoor home, but also share the splendour and ritual of the tea ceremony so beloved by history. Our teas are supplied in caddies in a range of heritage style shades carefully selected to sit beautifully and compliment any kitchen.
We are mindful of our environmental responsibility and have made the effort to ensure all our teas are sealed in biodegradable pouches or eco pyramids. Each pyramid is compostable & biodegradebale, providing an appealing, environmentally sustainable alternative to traditional tea bags.
Finally, the Dartmoor Pony, embossed in gold, sits gracefully on every caddie reminding us of the deep respect and appreciation we hold for the natural environment around us.
Alongside the teas themselves, we have curated a selection of teatime accessories from our timeless art deco teacups, to our intricate leaf strainers and a range of accompanying candles. We encourage you to take the time in this busy modern world, to acquaint yourself with the ritual of taking tea - and the mindful process of setting the scene, noticing the detail and being in the moment.
We hope you too fall in love with our teas, and all the wonderful Tors, Peaks and Downs they are named after. Enjoy the ceremony of tea as much as the very tea itself.
You'll notice a Dartmoor Pony featured on all of our tea caddies and throughout the Taylor & Moor brand. They symbolise the deep love and respect we have for our moorland and its native ponies.
We're therefore delighted to be working with the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust - a wonderful charity focused on securing the future of our moorland ponies, whilst inspiring and connecting people with Dartmoor's wildlife, landscape and heritage.
For every one kilogramme of tea that we sell, we donate one pound to the Trust. Please look at their website to understand more about what this amazing charity is achieving.
The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (Registered Charity No. 1109196) was established in 2005 in response to widespread concern about the viability and long-term survival of the traditional Dartmoor Pony.
Many ponies born and bred on Dartmoor come from the indigenous herds which have grazed here for many generations. Pedigree Dartmoor Ponies are recognised as a native rare breed and are endangered, yet their role in grazing the moorland is vital for conservation and supporting wildlife habitats.
We're so pleased to be working alongside the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, supporting their crucial work through the sale of our teas - each of which tells the story of a different part of our beautiful moor. Do browse through our tea varieties and read about the location inspired by each blend. Know that by purchasing a taste of Dartmoor you're supporting the conservation of this rugged, wild landscape and the ponies which make the moor what it is today.
